Bergen-Lafayette is a fun, historic part of Jersey City. It’s got a mix of everything – from old-school 19th-century rowhouses to elegant Victorian mansions and some pre-war apartment buildings. When exploring this part of Jersey City, you can feel the history. It’s tucked in between McGinley Square and Lincoln Park, with the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail running along the southern edge, making it easily commutable wherever you may want to go.
Historically, this area was part of Bergen Township, which was founded back in 1660. It eventually became Bergen City before joining Jersey City in 1870. Over the years, it’s seen a lot of changes. This area continues to grow and change with new luxury apartments popping up now.
What I love about Bergen-Lafayette is its vibrant arts scene. There are so many parks to relax in and amazing places to eat. Plus, you have some beautiful Victorian houses on Bergen Avenue and the historic Lincoln the Mystic statue. It’s a neighborhood with a lot of character and a great place to explore.

THE BERGEN-LAFAYETTE AREA OF JERSEY CITY IS FILLED WITH FUN THINGS TO DO. SOME OF MY FAVORITES INCLUDE CHECKING OUT THE ROTATING MONTHLY ART IN DEEP SPACE GALLERY, THRILL-SEEKING AT THE RPM RACEWAY, AND TAKING SOME FUN GROUP FITNESS CLASSES AT CHILLTOWN FITNESS. NOT TO MENTION, THE LIBERTY SCIENCE CENTER HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE WITH A PACKED EVENT CALENDAR AND EXHIBITIONS.
THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT OPTIONS FOR RESTAURANTS IN THE BERGEN-LAFAYETTE AREA OF JERSEY CITY, SO HOW CAN YOU JUST PICK ONE? SOME OF MY FAVORITE LOCAL GEMS INCLUDE ITA ITALIAN KITCHEN RIGHT IN MCGINLEY SQUARE, PINWHEEL GARDEN DUMPLING & NOODLE BAR ON THE CORNER OF COMMUNIPAW AVE. AND PINE ST. AND THE ROXY JUST AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE LIBERTY STATE PARK LIGHT RAIL STATION. AND OF COURSE IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A BREAKFAST SPOT IN THE AREA, TRY OUT CAFE ALYCE ON THE CORNER OF MONTGOMERY ST. AND BALDWIN AVE.

SOME OF MY FAVORITE LOCAL SPOTS INCLUDE FINDING ANTIQUE FURNITURE AND DECOR AT PUCHETO RUSTIC, PICKING UP HANDMADE SELF-CARE PRODUCTS AT TAPROOT ORGANICS, OR GRABBING SOME HEALTHY TREATS IN THE MARKET AT PLANT BASE.
